Abstract
In this research, to determine the current state of Russian media policy, we used the method of frequency analysis of texts of the legislative framework, content analysis of documents regulating the Russian media industry, expert interviews, as well as a comparative analysis of the activities of state and self-regulatory media, the time period of 1991-2019. The obtained data allowed us to determine the main levels of modern media regulation in Russia and highlight their features, formulate the main problems of state media policy and possible directions for improvement both at the level of legislative regulation, and among professional communities and at the level of public influence.
