Abstract
Active growth of Internet penetration in Russia entails some consequences for media audience and research community. It causes shifts in the structure of media consumption and changes of media dominants. For researchers this means the necessity to record the changes in media consumption habits and in the perception of different content by the audience. The article presents the results of the first stage of a qualitative study analysing the attitude young inhabitants of four Russian cities have towards long texts (longreads). The in-depth interviews provide social-demographic data, information concerning the specifics of media consumption and perception of media texts (e.g. – long texts). Regional context realizes itself in a more balanced attitude to information in the mass media. At the same time the empirical study demonstrates the lack of common understanding of the long texts phenomenon which is likely to complicate the practice of editorial boards.
Keywords: media consumption, long texts, long read, digital natives.
